About · meet Chantelle

Hi, I'm Chantelle.

The teacher behind Little Numbers Academy.

  • Honours · Education Management, Law & Policy
  • 10 years · Private-school teaching
  • Mathematics Subject Head
  • Grade Head · Grade 4
  • Grade 4 to 6 · Intermediate Phase

I've spent the last ten years teaching in a leading South African private school, where I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of children across the Foundation and Intermediate Phases. I taught Grade 3 for four years before moving into the Intermediate Phase, where I taught Grade 4 Mathematics for six years.

Beyond the classroom, I served as Grade Head for Grade 4, Subject Head for Mathematics, assistant Discipline Head, and was responsible for organising athletics and cross-country. Each of these roles taught me something different — leadership, structure, how to support a wide range of learners, and how to bring out the best in children who don't always believe in themselves yet.

Throughout my career I've also given extra classes and supervised extramurals after school, and attended regular professional training to stay up to date with the curriculum. I'm familiar with ATPs (Annual Teaching Plans) for structured, CAPS-aligned content and ISPs (Individual Support Plans) for tailored, learner-specific support — meaning I understand both the standardised journey every child needs to take and the personal adjustments some children need along the way.

Why I started Little Numbers Academy

In 2026 I realised I wanted to do more in my career — to focus deeply on the part of teaching I love most: helping children build genuine confidence in mathematics.

Maths is a subject that needs attention and extra support. It rewards patience and the right kind of teaching. I believe the foundation has to be solid before any child can move on to the more difficult sections, and I've seen that small, steady steps lead to the biggest breakthroughs over time.

I have the patience, the skills, and the experience to make maths fun and understandable. More than anything, I want every child who walks through my door to leave saying the words I love hearing most: “I understand now!”

A teacher who is also a mother

I'm a mother to a wonderful three-year-old boy with special needs, whom I love dearly. Being his mom has shaped me as a teacher in ways I never expected. I understand, as a parent, that you simply want what's best for your child — to help them, support them, and give them every chance to succeed.

I bring that same care to every learner I work with. Teaching, for me, is also a kind of parenting — being patient, being present, listening properly, and understanding that every child is different. Some need extra time. Some need someone to believe in them. Some just need to be told that getting it wrong the first time is part of getting it right in the end.

My goal

The most important thing for me is that every child gets to enjoy maths — that it stops being something they're afraid of, and starts being something they feel capable of. If your child is struggling with confidence, falling behind, or just needs that extra bit of focused attention to thrive, I'd love to meet them.

How it works

From nervous
to numbers.

Four small steps. No long forms, no commitments. We meet, we agree on a rhythm, your child starts to look forward to maths.

  1. Enquire

Tell us your child's grade, where the gaps are, and what time of day works. A WhatsApp message is enough — no forms.

  2. Pinpoint

We work out where your child actually is — what they know, what's wobbly, what's missing. Often the gaps started a year or two earlier than school suggests.

  3. Settle in

Pick a programme that fits your week. Single sessions, a monthly slot, or twice a week. Switch any time.

  4. Build

Foundations first, always. Small, steady steps; patient with confusion, generous with the second and third try — until your child says the words that matter most: “I understand now.”
